India bucks trend as World coffee exports slump 5.2%

Global coffee exports have slumped by 5.2 per cent to 78.45 million bags in the first ten months of the 2009-10 crop year, though shipments jumped in India and Indonesia, says UK-based international coffee body.

The exports stood at 82.73 million bags, 60 kg each, in the same period last year. The coffee crop year runs from October to September.

“Exports in the first 10 months of the 2009-10 coffee year have decreased by 5.2 per cent to 78.45 million bags,” the International Coffee Organisation (ICO) said.

CAFFEINE lovers in York are being challenged to raise £55,000, as the World’s Biggest Coffee Morning returns.

Fans of a cuppa can help fund Macmillan Cancer Support’s vital services by putting the kettle on as part of a national day of fundraising on Friday, September 24.

In 2009, 286 events were held across York as part of the World’s Biggest Coffee Morning, raising £51,254.

That morning latte may be about to get more expensive.

The price of coffee is continuing to rise. Wholesale coffee prices are the highest they’ve been in 13 years.

Futures contracts for December 2010 delivery have risen each of the last few days and a fungus in Colombia is threatening to hit the country’s coffee output, according to a Bloomberg News reports.

Leaving managers of many Boston-area coffee shops to ponder whether to pass on those costs to customers.

The Wild Bean Cafe, Caroline Springs store manager was one of three Victorians to reach the finals of the annual Wild Bean Cafe National Barista Championships last week.

She was among 14 of the company’s top coffee performers nationwide, putting their coffee skills and creativity on show for a panel of judges.
