Thanks to new technology from an American company, decaf drinkers can test if their brew really is caffeine-free from the comfort of their table. Research and development firm Veritech call their invention the ‘Caffeindicator’: a litmus like test which can be incorporated into the paper sachets sugar and artificial sweetener are served in.Consumers place a drop of the coffee on the packet and if it turns pink it contains caffeine.

The company markets such ‘Tabletop Vericators’ with the slogan “Just pick up a packet and prove it”. They appeal to those caffeine sensitive coffee lovers who need assurance that they haven’t been inadvertently served regular instead of decaf. Another ‘vericator’, which tests for the presence of the additive aspartame in sweeteners, is in development.Source: http://www.gilkatho.com.au/news/default.asp?cmd=view&articleid=816
